Kalaniketan Shishukunj (a Sanskrit word meaning a “Garden of Children”) was established in February 1955. It is a registered welfare organization which is run entirely by the youth for the youth.
Shishukunj caters primarily for children aged 6-14 years.
Our aim is to provide an environment rich in positive values which will allow the hidden potential within each child to flourish. Shishukunj aims for all-round development of the child – encompassing physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social development.
Our activities are diverse and varied to meet these needs.
The Shishukunj environment aims to create a family atmosphere, which can provide a warm and homely support network for all. Shishukunj is unique in that, its activities are run by teenagers and young adults under close supervision and mentoring. This allows our youngsters to take on responsibilities and develop key transferable skills (such as team-working, project management, public speaking and leadership) from a very early age.
The key to success of the Shishukunj philosophy relies on the special bond between the children and the young adults who run Shishukunj and act as role models. All the youngsters who run our activities have grown up through Shishukunj and understand the essence of our philosophy.
